Mercer Island, WA, November 25, 2024 - This past weekend, the MIHS Freshman VEX Robotics Team, the Slippery Penguins, competed in the annual Lake Stevens Turkey Trot Invitational Tournament.

The team overcame power outages and the team’s hard work under flashlight conditions at times paid off with a trophy and a fresh turkey prize for Thanksgiving.

The team of MIHS freshmen Harry Nguyen (captain), Til Wyss, Henry Xing, Zevi Danielli, and Jeremy Leung were among top 32 Washington high school teams competing at Cavelero Mid High School in Lake Stevens.

The Penguins earned six wins and two losses in the qualification rounds, securing the fourth seed. They then dominated the knockout stage, winning four intense matches, including a thrilling rematch in the final, to claim the championship title.

This tournament is part of the 2024-2025 High Stakes Season.

Congratulations to the Slippery Penguins. Good luck in the season ahead!
