Mercer Island, WA, September 28, 2023 – This evening at the Mercer Island School Board Meeting Superintendent Fred Rundle introduced new Mercer Island High School (MIHS) Athletic Director Lindsey Blaine to the School Board.

Blaine had been the MIHS Athletic Coordinator for the last two years.

“I am beyond excited to assume the role of  Mercer Island High School Athletic Director. It is an honor and privilege to be a part of such a talented and dedicated community,” Blaine said at the Board Meeting.

At the Board Meeting Blaine joined with Rundle to recognize both the Boys Lacrosse team that won the 3A State Championship last spring and junior Owen Powell who won the 3A Sate Championship in the 1,600-meter run last spring.

“First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the athletes of Mercer Island High School. Your hard work, dedication, and passion for your chosen sports are genuinely inspiring. I am committed to supporting your growth, both athletically and personally,” said Blaine prior to the Board meeting.

“To the coaches, I want to express my admiration for your incredible work in supporting and coaching MIHS athletes. Together, we will ensure that our coaching staff reflects the diversity of our student body, providing role models that our athletes can relate to and look up to,” continued Blaine. “To the community of Mercer Island your help and enthusiasm are essential in creating a thriving athletic program. I look forward to collaborating with community organizations, parents, and local businesses to ensure that every student-athlete has the resources and support they need to succeed. Thank you for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading your athletic program. I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure the success, growth, and inclusivity of our student-athletes.”

MIHS principal Nick Wold said “We are thrilled to bring Lindsey Blaine on as our Athletic Director.  With an incredible amount of experience coaching and supporting athletes and coaches, I firmly believe Lindsey will help MIHS / MISD athletics continue to be the leader in the region as the premier location for athletics. Lindsey builds thoughtful relationships with community members and uses athletics as a vehicle for student growth and development and I couldn't be prouder that she chose us as we choose her as our next Athletic Director!”

“Lindsey is inspired by her mother and hopes to make her proud with everything she does in supporting females in leadership positions and growing equity inside of athletics,” continued Wold.

Blaine graduated from Purdue University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Movement and Sport Science. At Purdue Blaine was a Track & Field athlete and she won the 2008 NCAA Championship in Javelin. Blaine received a Master’s in Sports and Athletic Administration from Gonzaga University in 2021.
