Mike Hirai Named New MIHS Girls Fastpitch Head Coach

Mercer Island, WA, February 26, 2026 – Mercer Island High School Athletic Director Lindsey Blaine is pleased to announce Mike Hirai has been named the new MIHS Girls Fastpitch Head Coach.
Hirai was the head coach at Newport High School from 2019 to 2024. In 2025, he took an assistant coaching job at Seattle University in charge of player development.
Since 2018, he has also been a coach for the Washington Ladyhawks Select Fastpitch organization, coaching the 18 Gold team.
Hirai works at Newport High School as a paraeducator where he is also an assistant football coach. He is married with two adult daughters and a loyal dog.

The Student Store (school-based enterprise) at Mercer Island High School was among 37 school-based enterprises achieving Gold for the 2025-2026 school year and will be recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference April 25-28, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia.
