MIHS Symphonic Winds Band Named 3A Academic State Champions

Mercer Island, WA, March 27, 2026 – The Mercer Island High School Symphonic Winds Band has been named the 3A Academic State Champions.
There are 55 students in the fifth period Symphonic Winds Band at MIHS and their combined grade point average is 3.97.
"This award is a validation of the type of creative, high-end thinking being done by our band students in class every day,” said band director Parker Bixby.
“It is more evidence why highly selective schools prioritize students involved in the performing arts. Way to go MI Band students!"
The Symphonic Winds band had the highest grade point average of all Washington school classifications.

On Saturday, MI Robotics, Mercer Island High School’s First Robotics Champion (FRC) Team 5937 officially qualified for the 2026 FIRST® Robotics World Championship by finishing in the top 16 of teams competing at the Washington State Championship.
