MIHS senior Marley MacDonald Interviews Amanda Knox On Breakfast on the Bridge
Mercer Island, WA, May 21, 2025 – Mercer Island High School (MIHS) senior Marley MacDonald interviewed Amanda Knox on Tuesday, May 20 for a Breakfast on the Bridge interview that aired on KMIH 88.9 this afternoon.
MacDonald spoke with Knox about the release of her memoir “Free: My Search for Meaning”. Free recounts how Knox survived incarceration for a murder she didn't commit, the misadventures she had reintegrating into society, and culminates in the untold story of her return to Italy and the extraordinary relationship she’s built with the man who sent her to prison.
Knox will be the keynote speaker at the 2025 Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund Award Ceremony on Saturday, May 24, at 1pm at Seattle University. Stanley Ann Dunham, the mother of President Barack Obama, graduated from MIHS in 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics in 1967 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Masters of Anthropology from the University of Hawaii in 1975. She was a pioneering anthropologist who developed a microfinance model to help turn traditional craft industries into sustainable businesses that could support artisans—especially women and their families.
Every spring the Stanley Ann Dunham Scholarship Fund awards multiple $5,000 college scholarships to female-identifying students enrolled in the graduating senior class at MIHS, Chief Sealth International High School, and Rainier Beach High School who demonstrate commitment to the values and goals embodied in the life and work of Dunham. These values and goals include:
- serving Powerful Groups Targeted for Oppression (PGTOs);
- promoting social justice and the rights of women;
- organizing and empowering communities;
- respecting and understanding diverse cultures; and
- demonstrating rigorous and socially relevant academic work.
Three MIHS seniors will be honored at the Award Ceremony on May 24. These students are: Regina Lee, Katrina Mehal, and Sophia Maligaya.
