Mercer Island, March 24, 2026 - In January, members of the Mercer Island High School Philanthropy, Education, Teaching, Research, Involvement (PETRI) Club and the Vashon Island High School Girls to Girls Club reviewed hundreds of applications and selected 156 students to receive scholarships to attend school in Taita Taveta, Kenya. 

In February, 16 students traveled with five chaperones on a delegation trip to Taita Taveta, Kenya to meet scholars, schools, and participate in activities. 

This month, during Women’s History Month, PETRI’s Women’s Reproductive Health campaign is raising awareness and supporting efforts that help girls stay healthy and stay in school.
