Mercer Island, WA, August 31, 2026 – The 2025-26 issue of Mercer Island High School’s creative arts magazine Pegasus has won its second consecutive Gold Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press, with All-Columbia Honors for the Visual category.
“I'm over the moon for the staff,” said MIHS English teacher Carrie Thompson. “Given the turnover in leadership with graduation, it's a stunning achievement that the new editors-in-chief pulled such a great publication together.”

The Columbia Scholastic Press critique panel has this to say about the 2025-26 issue of Pegasus: "This year's Pegasus is an excellent magazine featuring a diverse array of artistic achievements...Overall, an amazing book by the contributors and staff!"
“Congratulations to the students and staff for another outstanding achievement,” said Superintendent Fred Rundle. “Pegasus continues to showcase the writing and artistic talents of our students. I would also like to highlight the contributions of Carrie Thompson whose guidance, instruction, and facilitation make Pegasus possible.”
