Mason Azose Named New MIHS Football Head Coach

Mercer Island, WA, May 4, 2026 – Mercer Island High School athletic director Lindsey Blaine is pleased to announce Mason Azose has been named the new head football coach at MIHS.
After graduating from MIHS and the University of Oregon, Mason returned to the island and re-engaged with the island’s youth football program, a program he joined in 2003 as a youth player, as a head coach, growing the program's roster and winning multiple championships along the way.
From 2017 on, while coaching in the youth football program, Azose served on the boards of the youth and high school football programs.
“Over the last 20 years, the island football program has taught me about confidence, perseverance, the importance of community, and how to fall in love with the journey,” said Azose.
“I look forward to continuing a legacy built on more than football - one defined by community, character, and Mercer Island pride,” continued Azose.
A fourth generation Islander with deep family roots in the community, Azose serves as a Vice President at J.P. Morgan Private Bank and is a frequent volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club.
He is recently married to the love of his life, Julia - or as the team knows her, "Coach Jules."
