Mercer Island, WA, November 4, 2025 — Students from KMIH 88.9 The Bridge, Mercer Island High School’s award-winning radio station, have once again earned national recognition for excellence in broadcasting at the prestigious John Drury High School Radio Awards, hosted by North Central College and WONC 89.1 FM in Naperville, Illinois.

KMIH was honored for Best Website, a recognition that highlights the station’s growing digital presence and commitment to innovation. The website, KMIH.org, showcases student-produced content, station updates, and community programming. Last year’s website was led by Sophia Loiselle, and this year’s efforts have been guided by current Website Director Aadyaa Singhal, under the mentorship of MIHS broadcast media teacher Lauren Schechter.

“It’s such an honor for us and for KMIH to be recognized by the John Drury Awards,” said Singhal. “Everyone at the station puts in so much time and passion, so it feels amazing to see that work acknowledged. Winning Best Website at the John Drury Awards means a lot, not just to me but to everyone at KMIH. I’m proud to be part of a community that really values student voices!”

KMIH also earned top honors for Best Public Affairs Program with an interview by MIHS class of 2025 alum, Marley MacDonald, featuring Amanda Knox, the Seattle resident who gained national attention after being wrongfully accused of a 2007 murder in Italy.

In addition, 88.9 The Bridge received third place in the category of Specialty Music Program for a broadcast celebrating Women’s History Month, produced by current senior and KMIH Music Director Brooke Newell, alongside class of 2025 alums Hadley Hotzclaw, Sam Paddor, and Toly Odievich.

“I am very proud to be recognized by the John Drury Awards during my final year at KMIH,” said Newell. “This award recognizes the hard work that my team and I, as well as the rest of KMIH 88.9 The Bridge, put in daily. I am excited to continue making this radio station the best that it can become!”

“These awards represent the creativity, curiosity, and professionalism our students bring to their work every day,” said MIHS media broadcasting advisor Natalie Woods. “Our students are telling important stories, building platforms that connect our community, and creating innovative programming that serves our community and beyond.”

Listeners can tune in to KMIH 88.9 The Bridge on the FM dial or stream live online at KMIH.org to hear the award-winning programming produced by Mercer Island High School students.
