Mercer Island, WA, October 22, 2025 – Mercer Island High School Athletic Director Lindsey Blaine is pleased to announce Aleta Toy has been named the new MIHS girls gymnastics head coach.

Toy brings a strong background in gymnastics and student athlete development. She has eight years of coaching experience at Gymnastics East and most recently served as the Head Coach at Wentworth College Gymnastics Club in Boston.

As a former varsity gymnast at Punahou School in Hawaii, Aleta combines passion for gymnastics with a deep understanding of the discipline, focus, and teamwork that gymnastics fosters in student-athletes.

Gymnastics is a true family passion for Aleta. Her daughters, Carena and Kendal, are both certified USAG Level 10 judges. Carena is currently the Head Coach of Bellevue High School Gymnastics and a former MIHS gymnast and Kendal is a former NCAA Division I gymnast and assistant coach at Yale University.

A longtime Mercer Island resident, Toy is also actively involved in the community through the Mercer Island Girl Scouts and Mercer Island United Methodist Church. Her experience, leadership, and community engagement reflect the values of Mercer Island athletics — dedication, inclusivity, and excellence.

We are delighted to welcome Coach Aleta to the Mercer Island gymnastics program and look forward to the positive impact she will have on our athletes and the broader community.
