Title: GBU801&GBU802--AP MICRO ECON
(Offered every other year. This course will be available again for the 2025-2026 school year)
Pre-Requisite: There are no advanced mathematics used in the class, but it is helpful if students are comfortable with analytical frameworks.
Course Description: The course will cover basic economic concepts, supply and demand dynamics, market structure and concentration, international trade and tariffs, exchange rates, market efficiency, equity, and government regulation. In this course, students will gain an understanding of microeconomics equivalent to a typical college introductory course. Daily work, quizzes, and tests will be evaluated, as well as a course notebook and class projects. College credit may be awarded for qualifying scores on the AP Microeconomics exam. Students who take an AP course are encouraged to take the AP exam.
Work Load: Textbook chapter quizzes, weekly problem sets, group presentations, individual current event presentations. The weekly workload is typically slightly above average for a MIHS AP course.
Why would you be interested in the Class: Studying microeconomics is useful for students who want to understand how modern economies work and why some countries have high-performing economies and others don't. Economics also helps students better understand other social science disciplines influenced by economics (e.g., history, political science, government).
