Title:  FAP991&FAP992--CROSS AGE TEACHING

Pre-Requisite:  Students must be enrolled in 1 corresponding discipline-related to Mercer Island Performing Arts (Instrumental, vocal) class if offered, or on teacher approval.

Course Description:  This course is designed for current Instrumental Performing Arts students (Band, Orchestra, Choir) who wish to help teach and mentor MISD elementary instrumental and performing arts students. You will study the principles of education as a formative experience through an immersive mentorship program culminating in hands-on teaching experiences in the classroom with MISD elementary students. During this course, students will gain a basic foundation for work in Education, Sociology, Anthropology, Psychology, History, Political Science, or International studies as well as explore institutional pathways through education in our region.

Work Load:  Students will have weekly homework involving light reading and lesson plan development. Work loads outside of class time will vary with most of the work for the class being done during class time.

Why would you be interested in the Class:   Cross Age Teaching is designed for students that are interested in exploring working with young learners in the performing arts. It is ideally suited for current band , orchestra and choir students but is equally beneficial for any student with a solid grasp of techniques in piano or other musical areas.
