Title: ESP221&ESP222--SPANISH 2
Pre-Requisite: Completion of Spanish 1 or equivalent; for Islander Middle School students: 5 trimesters Spanish 1 in Gr. 7-8
Course Description: In Spanish 2, the skills introduced in Spanish 1 will be reviewed, reinforced, and expanded. As a result, there is more material to learn. Reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking and writing exercises become increasingly complex and expressive. There is an emphasis on the use of two past tenses. As in the first year, a greater awareness and sensitivity to Spanish-speaking culture and geography is fostered. Participation in classroom activities, quizzes, tests, and group and individual projects focusing on cultural materials will be used to assess all four proficiencies.
Work Load: For long-term memory development, students are assigned daily homework and are expected to review material frequently. There will be an emphasis on interactive communication in class, with active participation expected.
Why would you be interested in the Class: The goal and mission of the Spanish department is for students to learn skills that allow them to communicate, explore, and connect across cultures and foster attitudes of mutual understanding and respect of the Spanish-speaking world.
