Title: DSC221&DSC222--BIOLOGY
Pre-Requisite: Recommended: Chemistry 1/Physics 1 or Chemistry 1 H/ Physics 1 H
Course Description: This course covers topics such as evolution, ecology, biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics. Biological science investigation methods are studied in order to gain an understanding of major themes. Life's basic unit is the cell. Students learn about the cell in class. Students will relate life functions to the structures of living organisms, as well as examine how organisms maintain balance (homeostasis). The flow of energy through cellular processes such as photosynthesis and cellular respiration is another important theme covered in Biology.
Work Load: Assessments include lab reports, term projects, quizzes, homework, classroom participation, and exams.
Why would you be interested in the Class: Biology is a foundational lab class that prepares students for upper-level science courses while earning lab science credit. Biology is a recommended prerequisite for Biotechnology, AP Environmental Science, and AP Biology.
