Title:  DSC176--PHYSICS 1 HON

Pre-Requisite:  Prior completion of Algebra 1 is highly recommended. Due to the deeper treatment of these topics than in Physics 1, prior mastery of algebra, graphing, and slope is essential.

Course Description:    Physics principles and applications will be taught in this course. Data analysis and representation, science communication, motion and forces in one dimension, mechanical energy, and waves (time permitting). This laboratory-based course develops observational, investigative, and problem-solving skills through the collection and analysis of data and the application of findings to broader physics theories, laws, and concepts. In addition to laboratory activities, students will complete algebraic problem sets, read and discuss real-world examples, and analyze real-world phenomena. This course will prepare students for future science classes at MIHS.

Work Load:    Class work and assessments will include lab reports, readings, problem sets, quizzes, and exams. Students can expect 1-2 hours of homework per week.

Why would you be interested in the Class:   Physics 1 Honors is a rigorous class that is designed to challenge students who have the appropriate analytical and math skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment. It is a foundational lab class that will prepare students for upper-level science courses and earn 0.5 lab science credit

Physics 1 Honors is a recommended companion course for Chemistry 1 Honors. These 2 semester-long courses comprise a year of freshman-level science.
