Course Description: Study short stories, novels, poetry, and other texts from different genres, perspectives, and time periods to learn critical thinking principles. Interpret the deeper meaning of an author's writing and use the insights gained to better understand the world. In English 9, students learn how to develop a thesis, write analytical paragraphs, and write multi-paragraph essays. As part of the course, students learn the fundamentals of public speaking and academic research, which gives them an opportunity to apply their thinking and writing skills.
Work Load: Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, Research, Public Speaking, Discussions; Up to five hours per week of homework.
Why would you be interested in the Class: English 9 is a required course. Students with advanced writing skills and a strong interest in English Language should consider enrolling in English 9 Honors.
