Course Description: This course aligns with the AP test Computer Science A and introduces students to computer science through programming. Fundamental topics in this course include the design of solutions to problems, the use of data structures to organize large sets of data, the development and implementation of algorithms to process data and discover new information, and the analysis of potential solutions. The course emphasizes object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language. Students are advised to have completed the introductory course €œCS1 - Beginning Programming and Game Design€ (Or equivalent) along with a mathematical understanding of functions and the Cartesian coordinate system. Full participation in an AP course includes an expectation you will take the AP examination, for which you will be prepared throughout the year.
Work Load: This will be a challenging course as its comprehension will be at a college level. There is no direct homework assigned outside of class, though the expectation is to use time outside class to study if falling behind.
Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: Even if students don't plan to pursue a computer science career, most careers have computer science elements. As well, students will learn basic logic principles that can help with any post-secondary decision.
