Course Description: This curriculum establishes the basics of robotics terminology and lab safety, followed by introductions to mechanical design, electronics, and programming for autonomous and teleop robotics. Students learn the basic principles of design, construction, and programming. Problem-solving techniques, mathematics, logic, creativity, physics, electronics, mechanics, and computers are also taught. Students learn basic robot component operations and then join components together to build numerous robots capable of performing defined tasks. Students design, build, test, and modify robots in a team. A number of competitions are held during the course: SumoBot, Drag Racing, and First® Challenge. The Robotics Club is recommended for additional education and community building. Prerequisite Skills: The class is structured for students with or without technical background.

Work Load: Engineering Journal (in class), robot design, coding, etc. Each semester of the course culminates in an event where students present what they've learned and use their robot to compete in a class mini-game.

Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: Students gain hands-on experience in STEM fields by taking this course. In troubleshooting robot construction and operation challenges, students develop critical thinking skills and apply theoretical concepts. In addition, a collaborative team environment fosters interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership.
