Course Code(s): GME418&GME419

Pre-Requisite: GME 411, 412, 414, 415 Intro and Advanced Broadcast Media and permission of instructor.

Course Description: ABRO is an invitation-only leadership course for third and fourth-year broadcast students who have excelled in previous levels. This course gives students hands-on experience helping to run KMIH 88.9 The Bridge, lead fellow students in intro and advanced classes, and host our live morning show, “Breakfast on The Bridge.” At the heart of ABRO is leadership: students take on meaningful roles in station operations, mentor peers, and grow their storytelling, communication, and professional skills. Through this experience, students produce content for local audiences and national platforms, develop their creative voice, and have the opportunity to compete for regional and national broadcasting awards, gaining recognition for their work. Students also deepen their skills in live broadcasting, podcasting, audio production, music programming, and station management, preparing them for future academic and professional opportunities in media, communications, and beyond.

Work Load: ABRO students take on real-world leadership roles within KMIH 88.9 The Bridge—managing areas like music programming, content, website, social media, sports, news, and engineering. Each student is expected to fulfill their assigned role in order to operate the station successfully, which will require spending time outside the school day from time to time, particularly during morning hours when students host a live morning show.

Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: This course is ideal for engaged students who want to take a deep dive into communications and broadcasting, develop leadership skills, and dedicate themselves to meaningful projects. ABRO allows students to explore their interests and passions in media, often inspiring careers in broadcasting, communications, and related fields, while providing hands-on experience producing full-service content and helping operate KMIH 88.9 The Bridge. ABRO develops critical leadership, communication, and storytelling skills in a professional, mission-driven, hands-on environment. :
