Course Code(s): FAP651&FAP652

Pre-Requisite: Philharmonic Orchestra or Instructor Approval

Course Description: The MIHS Orchestra classes study string and symphonic orchestra literature. Age- appropriate technical development is emphasized. All 9th Grade orchestra students are enrolled in Philharmonic Orchestra; thereafter, students proceed to Symphonic Orchestra or audition into Chamber Orchestra. Orchestras perform several concerts per year and travel to perform at festivals across the state and country. Symphonic performs a wide variety of music from styles across the globe and lays the technical foundation necessary to continue growing in our upper-class ensembles. Concerts and Evening Rehearsals are a required component of this class. Students will develop technical skills on their instrument as well as study music theory, music history, and rehearsal and performance techniques. More information can be found at https://miorchestra.org/

Work Load: Regular practice, periodic assessment of technical skills, and participation in Performances and Evening Rehearsals (outlined in the Syllabus).

Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: Students interested in expanding their experience with Orchestral and Chamber music performance as well as their personal skills on violin, viola, cello, and bass.
