Pre-Requisite: Enrolled students should have successfully participated in the wind band program in middle school or obtain instructor approval for participation.
Course Description: Concert Band is a continuation of the middle school wind band program. Students enrolled in this course will rehearse and perform a variety of music from the wind band repertoire. They will develop technical skills on their instruments while studying music theory, music history, and rehearsal and performance techniques. Concert Band students perform outside of class throughout the school year, with participation in all performances being mandatory. Students in Concert Band are also members of the MIHS Marching Band, which performs at various school and community events. A fair share fee of $125€“$250 applies, with scholarships available each year. No student will be excluded due to hardships of the Fair Share fee. Percussion Students: All 9th grade percussion students should enroll in INSTRUMENT TECHNIQUES FAP331&FAP332.
Work Load: The amount of outside practice time will vary depending on the individual student, the time of year, and their personal goals and . During football/marching season, students will attend one 45-minute sectional per week, as well as one 3-hour evening rehearsal prior to each home football game. This typically includes approximately four home games, and games are not held every week. Sectionals and marching rehearsals conclude after the last home football game, which is usually in the third week of October. Band and Sports: The MIHS Band program collaborates closely with all MI sports teams in every season to ensure that students can pursue their passions for both band and sports without having to choose between them.
