Course Description: In this course, students explore the fascinating world of how materials shape our modern lives - from the metals in bridges and smartphones to the polymers in sports gear and biomedical devices. Through hands-on labs, real-world case studies, and design challenges, students investigate the structure, properties, processing, and performance of metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. They learn how atomic structure influences material behavior, how engineers select materials for specific applications, and how innovations in materials drive technological progress. This course blends chemistry, physics, and engineering principles, preparing students for careers in STEM and empowering them to think like materials engineers - curious, analytical, and solution-oriented.

Work Load: Individual and group lab work. Student journal. Class time provided for all documentation and study.

Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: Inherently interesting because it can answer "why" for most things that happen in daily life, Materials science is for those who are curious, enjoy learning new things, and balance logical and creative thinking. The course is lab-based, so there is little homework.
