- NCAA Approved
Course Code(s): DSC344
Pre-Requisite: Completion of Algebra 1, Physics 1 (or 1H), or equivalent.
Course Description: Physics 2 Honors, builds on knowledge and understanding from Physics 1 Honors. Physics 1 Honors concepts will be briefly discussed and built upon in order to develop an understanding of the underlying physical principles. This course includes topics such as problem-solving in physics, one-dimensional Kinematics with constant acceleration, Newton's laws, energy and momentum conservation, and electricity and magnetism (basic electric circuits and electromagnetic induction, electromagnetic waves, and interaction of light and matter).
Work Load: Students are expected to cmplete periodic problem sets on a weekly basis; experiment, investigate, and engage in hands-on experiments and engineering activities with classmates; and write investigation reports detailing observations, analysis, and conclusions. There are periodic unit tests and a cumulative final exam. Work load varies from student to student. Generally, if students are greatly challenged in their math course they will need to plan additional time for physics review than students who are not.
Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: Physics 2 Honors is designed to prepare students to succeed in AP Physics 2 or AP Physics C (depending on math proficiency) the following year. With Chemistry 2 Honors, students will be well prepared to succeed in AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Environmental Science, Earth and Space Science, and/or AP Biology.
