Course Description: AP U.S. History is equivalent to a two-semester introductory course in U.S. history at a college. By studying history, literature, and writing, students will explore key themes, ideas, and developments in the American Experience from approximately 1491 to the present. This course also teaches students how to analyze primary and secondary sources, develop historical arguments, make historical comparisons, and apply logic about context, causation, continuity, and change over time. College credit may be awarded for qualifying AP U.S. History scores. AP course students are encouraged to take the AP examination.

Work Load: Nightly readings of a substantial amount of college-level text. This course requires twice as much reading as US History. Quizzes are administered regularly. Students are involved in a variety of in-class activities, including participating in group presentations.

Why You Might Be Interested In The Class: This course provides students with advanced knowledge of the individuals, events, processes, and trends inherent to U.S. history. Students interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how the many facets of human activity interact (e.g., domestic politics, international relations, economics, environmental management, literature, etc.) will benefit from the course. Additional Information: The interdisciplinary nature of this course (combining the study of history with literature) will prepare students well for the academic requirements of social studies courses in college.
